4th in the 6th CWC 2011, a result to be very proud of, I hope.
I have witnessed Team Lion’s journey from auditions in April 2010 till their ASU routine on Day 2 of CWC 2011, and believe me, it has been nothing short of amazing. I don’t want to rant on and on in this post about the journey, but at the very least, I have to let everyone know, the heroes who made Team Lions possible.
In no order of merit,
Special mention also goes to Graham, who had to sub Clement few days before ATCI in Bangkok due to Clement’s injury, but finally he was conned (HAHA) to continue the journey with us to CWC. I hope you didn’t regret it!
Fai, your photo smaller coz koped from FB, you were too shy to let me take a picture of you remember?
We really really have to thank Xue Wei for learning the routine in one day (especially dance) and enabled the other 15 members of Team Lions to have a dream come true. As I told the team during the celebratory dinner at an awesome steamboat place on Sunday night after the competition, without Xue Wei, everyone one of us present might have been well watching TV at home, or watching CWC live streaming, albeit laggily, with friends. So we really really appreciate Xue Wei’s help in this effort. You deserve a special mention here!!!
Last but not least, Dosmond and Yanling, although you guys couldnt join us in the end for CWC, we still really want to thank both of you for being part of Team Lions, especially in her debut performance at ATCI, Bangkok. Both of you were an awesome addition to the team, and it was really a regret to not have you guys on the team in CWC!
Next, as a final wrap up, some last few persons/parties that FCS would like to thank:
- Vincent, for taking the tough job of being the coach of these bunch of highly skilled individuals, and sticking through with us till the very end
- Karen NEO, for being so supportive with us throughout, especially during ATCI when things were a bit messy, and although there were some miscomm along the way, but all’s well!
- NTU ACES / SRC, SP Gusto, TP Blazers, KR Steppers, Legacy, RP Rexaz, for renting out your equipment / training area to the poor Team Lions
- Heidi’s dad who lent us his lorry for FREE all the time!
- Jay for Team Lions T-shirt design – it’s really awesome I think!
- Xingwei aka CheerWonder? CheerStar? CheerGod? CheerWhatever? for helping out with the team management during CWC itself.
- All female cheerleaders whom we disturbed at 2am in the morning because we were desperate to find a substitution for Karen, sorry!
- All cheerleaders who came down for the preview for ATCI and CWC to cheer your friends on!
- Everyone else who helped us in a way or another to make this into a success, which I really cannot remember now because it’s 1:30 AM.
As a conclusion, we see that Team Lions is made up of cheerleaders from at least 7 different cheer teams all over Singapore.
Team Lions IS Singapore.
This is not the time to be proud, but I think we deserve a big pat on our backs. There were those who doubted us, were cynical, looked down on us, didn’t believe us (cue: play song “We Are Singapore”). But there were those who have believed and supported us right from the start, and FCS sincerely thank you for that. FCS has proven that with Team Lions, Singapore cheerleaders can be united together and product decent results. Yes, the world is not united in terms of cheerleading governance, but FCS will work hard to make sure that this will not happen in Singapore. We want every cheerleader to be able to train passionately, without needing to care about what’s going on in international cheer scene.
And seeing what came out from the 6th CWC 2011 in Hong Kong, I can only imagine that Singapore cheerleading will just keep going further.
(Lastly, a pat for ourselves, OWC, Yuen Bo and Kai Bin, it was worth it, I know
